Right, then...

Anyone use an extractor for oil changes instead of draining? I like the thought of not having to jack up the car, but not sure if it does a good enough job getting the old oil out...

I use an extractor in my boat. It's a $26,000 diesel motor and if the extractor is good enough for that, it's good enough for anything. I would definitely recommend heating up the oil before trying to extract it or it will be a long process.

My only fear with extraction would be  that it could potentially leave some sludge, or worse, metal shavings in there.

Maybe try a fumoto oil drain valve?

Depending on the shape of your oil pan, the extractor might actually get more sludge than draining it. Get the oil hot and it’ll be okay. I’m personally too cheap to blow $100 on one, but if that’s not a barrier, then go nuts.

I use one for most of my cars, makes it dead simple and super clean.

A coworker of mine, who is an ex Mercedes tech swears by them and says they actually remove more oil than by pulling the plug. But that’s mercs that are likely designed for that.

My S8 does call for extraction oil changes in the factory manual.
